Pronunciation: Consonants Part 3

G

    が (ga) ぎ (gi) ぐ (gu) げ (ge) ご(go)
  • This sound is similar to a 'G' as heard in the word "gas" and is represented by a "G" in Romaji.
Z

    ざ (za) じ (ji) ず (zu) ぜ (ze) ぞ (zo)
  • This sound is similar to a 'Z' as heard in the word "zebra" and is represented by a "Z" in Romaji. However, じ sounds more like a 'J' as heard in the word "jam" and because of that is written as "ji" in Romaji.
D

    だ (da) ぢ (ji) づ (zu) で (de) ど (do)
  • This sound is similar to a 'D' as heard in the word "dad" and is represented by a "D" in Romaji. There are two exceptions with this sound though. ぢ sounds almost identical to じ but they are different sounds. The same goes for づ which sounds very close to ず.
B

    ば (ba) び (bi) ぶ (bu) べ (be) ぼ (bo)
  • This sound is similar to a 'B' as heard in the word "bad" and is represented by a "B" in Romaji.
P

    ぱ (pa) ぴ (pi) ぷ (pu) ぺ (pe) ぽ (po)
  • This sound is similar to a 'P' as heard in the word "pie" and is represented by a "P" in Romaji.
